Food Waste Cafe

Sophie, New Zealand, 11-14 years

Food waste is an issue at local, national and global levels. The goal links to personal consumer levels and also retail levels. Food insecurity is linked directly to food waste, climate change and biodiversity loss. This is the perfect goal to focus on in terms of working together as every person can contribute and that’s why Kiwi Harvest was the perfect community action for me to volunteer at and then help promote. Food waste is also a social issue and linked to zero poverty and Zero Hunger. New Zealand is also in the perfect position to set a standard for the globe to follow with our agricultural sector hence Life on Land. International Food waste Day is the 29th of September and many companies within New Zealand are involved in contributing to the promotion of Food Waste and SDG 12.3 through that day.
