Lichens are extremely sensitive to environmental changes. They are the best known bio-indicators of air pollution levels. They are very sensitive to environmental pollution. Thus, the presence of lichens suggests low pollution levels, while their disappearance suggests worsening environmental pollution.
The lichens of the bloom : Xanthoria parietina , Evernia prunastri (a pendent) and Parmotrema reticulatum
