Ana Isabel Leitão and Gabriel Ponte, 15-18 years old, Agrupamento de Escolas de Valongo
After accepting the challenge to participate in the 1st National Week on Invasive Species (SNEI), proposed by ABAE and Invasoraspt, the students of the Valongo Secondary School took an afternoon to help fight them, after previous preparation work. The students went to the Parque das Serras do Porto (Portugal) and were assisted by a team from the Municipality of Valongo who provided the necessary material to fight the invading Cortaderia selloana.
In the course of the work, Dr. Raquel Viterbo was interviewed by the JRA team of the school.
In the end, the students used the app already installed on their cell phones to mark the location where the different species of invaders were found, for later removal.
